Description:

The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag is the ultimate baby sleep sack, crafted from New Zealand's finest, softest merino wool to create the perfect safe micro-climate around baby's body for thermal comfort and well-being. Winner iF Product Design Award.

Two sizes: Baby 0 to 2 years | Toddler 2 to 4 years.

Winter weight. Ideal for cooler room temperatures from 59°F to 68°F.

Fabric Benefits

Merino wool is nature's smart fiber and the fabric of our times. Soft as silk, yet durable. Warm yet breathable.

Merino has the remarkable ability to regulate body temperature. It captures and circulates air to insulate baby when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises. Baby stays warm and dry through night and day without overheating.

Research shows merino is the ideal fabric for baby sleep sacks. A 2010 AgResearch study determined that babies sleeping in Merino Kids' newborn merino sleep sack are less likely to overheat or to become damp or chilled compared with synthetic polar fleece sleep sacks.

Itch-free and allergy-safe. Naturally fire resistant; rated low fire risk. Machine washable, can be tumble-dried.

Design Features

  • Patented safety belt aperture enables safe travel in stroller or car seat.
  • Baby has freedom to move naturally and room to grow yet they can't slip underneath, nor wriggle out and wake up cold.
  • Contoured bodice stays clear of face.
  • Full-length self-locking zipper down one side, away from face. Zipper sewn inside lining so won't scratch. No harsh, noisy velcro.
  • Opens up flat for easy dressing. Unzips bottom-up for quick diaper changes
  • Fits growing child safely and comfortably for up to two years. Quality workmanship ensures years of wear. Excellent value compared to other sleep sacks that last only a few months.
  • Outer layer is 100% natural long staple cotton for extra durability.

2Should be called cotton, not merinoJun 27, 2010
By Kemyst
This sleeping bag turned out to be mostly cotton. The outer and waddling are all 100% cotton with an inner lining of relatively thin merino knit on the inside. The workmanship was extremely good with quality zips and domes. Given that it really is mostly cotton, it is very over priced.

You are charged $10 shipping, 15% restocking fee and you pay return shipping, so its not worth returning. Think carefully before buying!

5Superb quality that lasts, the best baby gift we receivedJan 08, 2009
By Paul
We were given one of these Wild Poppy Merino Kids sleep sacks when we had our first child three years ago. He used it throughout his first two winters, and it was so good that we bought a standard merino sleep sack for the summer months and when he got taller around the age of 2 we moved him up to the toddler sleep sack (Merino Kids Toddler Sleep Bag, French Navy). The toddler sleep sack is just as good but bigger, and will last him another couple of years. He's in it every night, wouldn't be without it, especially when we travel. He sleeps in it in the car seat on road trips, and he wears it on aircraft when we fly.

The reason this Wild Poppy sleep sack is called 'winter-weight' is that it has an extra layer of insulation compared to the other Merino Kids baby sleep sacks. This keeps your baby warm if their bedroom gets cool. The guideline they give is below 65 degrees (18C). I think 68-72 degrees is what's recommended as the ideal temperature for a baby's bedroom, so if yours dips below that in cold weather, or if you have cold aircon, then this winter sleep sack is for you.

We still have our original Wild Poppy baby sleep sack, our daughter sleeps in it now during winter months, and we bought her a lovely Rose Hip (Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag, Rose Hip) for the other seasons. Even after two years of hard use by our little boy, and now two winters with our little girl, the original Wild Poppy winter sleep sack is still going strong, and it will last as a hand me down to some of their cousins.

It's testament to the superb quality of these Merino Kids sleep sacks that they last so well, especially considering that a child spends probably more time asleep in a sleep sack than in any other item of clothing.

5Dry baby = Happy MomJun 09, 2010
By Jules Stewart
I had heard of the benefits of merino but have never had any first hand experience with it until we bought this sleep sack for our daughter. We had used polyester and cotton sleep sacks before, but always found that they caused her to overheat and get sweaty if the temperature in our house wasn't perfect, (living on the East Coast, our houses are notoriously draughty and getting the temperature right can be tough).
I noticed a difference as soon as she had woken up from the first night of wearing it. She wasn't too hold or cold and was perfectly snug. As a big night time pee'er, it's not uncommon for me to find her sleep sack wet in the morning, and even though she peed through her diaper that first night, the inside of the sleep sack was bone dry. Somehow the fabric had wicked and moved away the pee from her body and through to the outside of the sleep sack. Amazing!
These sleep sacks are definitely not in the same price range as cheapo polyester and cotton sleep sacks, but in terms of features and benefits, there's no competition. If you want the best sleep sack for your child, look no further than Merino Kids.

5Im Blown Away and I Think You WIll Be Too.Mar 07, 2011
By Travis
Wow was I in the dark... For three months we were putting blankets on our baby and wondering why she was waking up sooooo much. My poor wife. Feeding, changing and the usual, but also re-covering the baby when she would wriggle out of the covers. Enter sleep sack and wow! Always covered always the right temperature always more sleep for us and if you do even just a little bit of homework on merino you will see where I am coming from besides the functionality of a sleep sack.

5So glad we found this!Jan 21, 2012

We needed a winter weight sleep sac for my 22 month old son as the days and nights got cooler. I'm so glad I found this on Amazon so we could avoid the toxic fire retardants on almost everything else made for sleep. It's a generous size and keeps my son plenty warm (his room ranges from 66-70 degrees). We just bought him a wool comforter but he hasn't figured out how to sleep under it so he's always sleeping on top of it and still wakes happy. Twice he's been able to wiggle out of the sac but I imagine he does this once he wakes up and not during the night. (He sleeps 12 hours with no complaints.) I doubt he'll be in it until he's age four but we'll use for as long as we need to. I wish we'd bought the smaller size for the first two years of his life since we'll be buying more of these for baby #2. They're expensive but holding up beautifully after dozens of washes so you can definetely hand these down. I bought the lighter version for the Fall and Spring or for naptime when the room is warmer and we love that too. I think these are amazing products. They are not thick like a down comforter but they keep our baby toasty warm with just cotton pajamas underneath- I can tell by his toasty hands and feet.
Lastly, I love that these last two years- we bought so many of the cotton muslin kind for son #1 since they only fit for 3-6 months. You pay more upfront for these but get more usage out of them. Highly recommend.
